Uninor (Telenor) Launches In India
Eight months after Telenor Group finalized the transaction with Unitech Group, Uninor (the name for the company in India) services were launched simultaneously in the circles Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh East, Uttar Pradesh West and Bihar (including Jharkhand).
The service provider has launched with two tariff plans. ‘Talkmore@29 paisa’ would allow users to make calls at 29 paisa a minute and STD (national long distance) calls at 49 paisa a minute, while the ‘Callmore @ 29 paisa’ also offers local calls at 29 paise per minute and STD at 49 paise per minute with a daily rental of Rs two.
The firm expects to achieve EBITDA break-even in three years of operations, and capture 8% market share by 2018.
With tariffs in a downward spiral, mobile number portability in the wings, and moreplayers entering, the telecom market in India seems very very interesting.
