The Business Of Managing Online Reputations
Although online reputation is a new sector in India, globally, this is part of the paid search industry – that is, firms getting paid for every search you do – that stands at around $18 billion.
With more and more companies going online to promote themselves, managing their reputation among the online audience gains emphasis leading to a whole new revenue stream.
How to go about it however, is a whole new story which can start from something as simple as setting up a Google Alert on your companies name.
It never ceases to surprise me when I get a comment from a company that I have just written about, which in turn, is indicative of how seriously such companies take any reference to themselves online. Not surprisingly, I find this in smaller, social media centric, largely online companies, as opposed to the larger companies, which perhaps have more to protect.
It’s time however for companies to listen more actively to what the online audience is saying about them – influential bloggers and groups can, without too much effort, shatter what they have taken so much effort to build.
