Social networking and NGOs

A couple of days back, I met an old friend who mentioned about a NGO that he along with a few friends was contributing to, which focused on education. The conversation centered around teaching aids, and etc.
What was also very interesting was his comment that he and his friends had gotten together on Orkut to initiate this organization, and to take it forward. This was the first example I have come across of a group using a social networking site to band together for a sustainable enterprise (meetups, recruitment are fairly common). I am now on the lookout for other such examples. Do leave a comment if you know of any.
