Record Number Of Telecom Subscribers Added In October


The telecom tariff wars seem to be working well for subscribers, with a record 16.67 million new mobile subscribers added in October, the highest ever.
According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). This 16.67 million wireless subscribers which includes GSM, CDMA and FWP combined, takes the total wireless subscriber base to 488.4 million (up from 471.73 million in September), and the total number of telephone subscribers (including fixed line) to 525.65 million at the end of October, with an overall tele-density (number of telephones per 100 people) to 44.87.
Maintaining its downward spiral, wireline subscriber base, declined from 37.31 million in September 2009 to 37.25 million at the end of October 2009.
Tata Teleservices notched the highest number of subscribers with 3.87 million new users, followed by Vodafone at 2.98 million. Bharti Airtel added 2.7 million users in October, while Aircel added 2.02 million subscribers.
Total broadband subscriber base increased by 2.49 percent to 7.4 million in October 2009 from 7.22 million in the previous month.
