Online Matrimony Sites Go Niche
While online matrimony sites have one objective – that of providing a platform to facilitate marriages, in true Internet tradition, now even they are going niche. So, along with shaadi.com, bharatmatrimony.com, jeevansaathi.com and simplymarry.com come bposhaadi.com and govtshaadi.com which are built around professions, secondshaadi.com built around matrimonial status, the likes of positivesaathi.com are aimed at people who are HIV positive, while idontwantdowry.com is built around values.
History shows that as a market develops, mass makes way for niche – take Comdex for instance, which is now making way for more niche and specialised exhibitions.
Hence niche job sites for instance would be extremely useful – I know what my career option is, and I would tend to look for jobs largely in that area. However, are marriages just as segregated? Or if they are, are they segregated by region and community, which most of the mass sites already provide?
History also suggests that as a society develops, it is generally marked by openness of thought – which would raise a question for such niche matrimonial portals.
Is there really a case for such niche matrimonial portals?
