Information Sources – Who Do We Trust? Not Blogs …

A new study by TNS, Digital World, Digital Life, covering 27,000 people across 16 countries, ranked blogs as the least trusted sources of news out of 13 sources analyzed.
Least trustful of blogs were respondents in Norway, The Netherlands, Germany and Sweden, where just about 5% of respondents said they trusted blogs more than any other sources of information. About 9% of United States respondents said they believed blogs over anything else.
However, the Chinese and Koreans were much more trusting of the medium at 24% and 22% respectively.
This is in contrast to the study Harnessing the Power of Blogs, by BuzzLogic which talked about the role of blogs in influencing purchase decision.
Not surprisingly, word of mouth takes the cake when it comes to trust – Americans ranked the trustworthiness of word of mouth at 48% and the Chinese “put the most trust in friendly recommendations at 56%.”
Scandinavians revealed the highest level of trust for online news, with 54% of all respondents in Finland, 50% of those in Sweden, 48% of people in Norway and 48% of respondents in Denmark saying they trusted Web-based news.
52% of the Germans rated Wikipedia as the most trustworthy information source.
