India Adds 10.07 Mln Wireless Subscribers This September


Even as talks of a slowdown in the economy are doing the rounds, the wireless telecom subscribers surged by a staggering 10.07 million in September 2008 to reach 315.31 million. Of this GSM operators added about 7.69 million new subscribers.
The wireline subscriber base however decreased to 38.35 million in September – down by 0.30 million from the 38.63 million subscribers in August 2008.
With this growth, the overall tele-density has reached 30.64% at the end of September 2008 as against 29.83% in August 2008.

Total broadband subscribers base also reached 4.90 million by the end of September 2008 as compared to 4.73 million by the end of August 2008. Broadband however continues to be defined as speeds above 256 kbps.
