Google Knol Reaches The 100,000 Knols Landmark
And that too in just about 6 months.
You might remember Google Knol – Google’s answer to Wikipedia which launched sometime in July last year. Now the GoogleBlog is claiming that over 100,000 knols (authoritative articles about specific topics, written by people who know about those subjects) have been published.
This is still WAY behind Wikipedia, which currently has something like 2,704,034 articles in the English version alone. However, two points of note here – wikipedia has been around since January 2001 … and it took something like two years to reach the 100,000 articles milestones – which Google Knol has covered in 6 months.
This is also an excellent indication of the evolving digital culture – these days, Wikipedia adds around 500,000 to 600,000 article a year.
