Distance Meter: Filter Hotels By Distance From City Locations
Travel portal MakeMyTrip.com has launched Distance Meter, a rather interesting tool that helps users sort hotels based on the distance from a particular location. According to MakeMyTrip, the new feature is currently available for all major cities in the country like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad. However, it gives the aerial distance, and not the actual distance you would need to travel.
Given the recent moves by the airlines to cut down on comissions, hotels and packages would be the focus areas for travel websites. According to the company, 60% of room-nights booked through MakeMyTrip last year were booked online. Moreover, the company is targeting a growth of 200% in revenues in 2008-2009 from the hotel revnues itself.
The online travel industry in India is estimated to be worth $6 billion by 2010. According to industry estimates, it is expected to corner around 23% share of the total travel market by 2010.
