DealTracker – WordPress Acquires Polldaddy
Automattic, the team behind the blogging platform WordPress (which wildblueskies.com uses as well), has acquired Irish startup Polldaddy for an undisclosed sum.
PollDaddy provides polling and survey services, and claims to that 1 million polls have been created and 195 million votes have been collected to date since its inception in October 06.
As their blog claims:
The majority of our users are bloggers, and a large portion of them are using WordPress. We have been working closely with the Automattic team for the past few months on building better integration with WordPress and, in the end, it just seemed like the perfect fit for us to join them!
A number of the top bloggers who already use WordPress like TechCrunch and ReadWriteWeb are also some of the users of Polldaddy, so as an additional service it makes sense for Automattic. Additionally, the acqusition would give WordPress access to the other users of Polldaddy which includes Wired, PCWorld, etc.
WordPress.com has already integrated PollDaddy’s functionality for its 4.4 million hosted users at WordPress.com, allowing them to easily add surveys to any blog post, and is also making a PollDaddy plugin available for self-hosted WordPress blogs.
Automattic appears to be on an acquisition spree lately – it acquired Intense Debate, a startup working on an advanced commenting platform September, and some time back had acquired Buddy Press, a project for layering social networking features onto WordPress, and Gravatar a universal avatar system.
