DealTracker – DimDim Raises $6 Million In Series B
Open source web meeting company, Dimdim, recently raised $6 million in Series B funding, led by existing investors Index Ventures, Nexus India Capital, and Draper Richards, out of the US, Europe, and Asia.
Dimdim provides a real-time online conferencing services platform on a hosted as well as enterprise versions, allowing meeting participants to share whiteboards, show documents and slides, collaborate, chat, talk and broadcast using Webcams without having to download software (however, desktop sharing does require a plug-in install). Dimdim plans to use this funding to introduce additional enhancements and simultaneously expand the reach of its web-based open-source conferencing software.
“Dimdim has had an incredible ten months since our private launch at DemoFall 2007. Now more than 500,000 people in more than 180 countries have attended Dimdim Web Meetings,” according to DD Ganguly, CEO and co-founder of Dimdim.
Given that Dimdim is based on an open source platform, and is rather attractively priced (free for upto 20 simutaneous users), companies like WebEx will need a relook at their models.
Dimdim introduced its first open-source product in September 2006 and had raised $2.4 million in a Series A round in January 2007.
