No doubt helped by the festive-season sales, GSM telecom companies added 7.7 million subscribers (excluding Reliance Communications) in October according to figures released by the Cellular Association of India - their highest-ever addition in any month.

Even as talks of a slowdown in the economy are doing the rounds, the wireless telecom subscribers surged by a staggering 10.07 million in September 2008 to reach 315.31 million. Of this GSM operators added about 7.69 million new subscribers.
