As Books Go Digital
With the mobile and online penetration growing rapidly in India, book publishers are now increasingly looking to ride the tech wave.
Take Pengiun for instance which recently partnered with Mobifusion, a global developer, publisher and distributor of mobile technologies, to repurpose the content from books to mobile phones.
Or Harper Collins, US, which has just finished digitizing every book that they have published and have stored in a digital warehouse. Harper Collins UK announced that it would publish both the online and printed version of new books together starting September this year.
Doubt if this is the end of books as we know them, but expect books to get cheaper. Publishers say the online book market will target young readers first, but this may change over time says this article.
Wonder what this means for the content itself - I can’t help noticing a shift towards graphic novels, and view this not as a passing fad, but more of a cultural shift. Expect content to become more visual going forward.
