Are More Asian Women Logging Onto Social Networks?
An emphatic yes, by 25%, if you believe this article in Mint.
According to the article, there has been a sharp increase in women subscribers, especially from countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, apart from US, UK, UAE and European nations, for social networking sites.
Convincing women used to be a problem for most Indian social networking websites due to concerns ranging from security issues to the kind of freedom that the site offers for sharing ideas, thoughts, photos and videos.
While the article mentions bigadda, I wonder if other sites would agree. One aspect of looking at it would be that as more women go online, a number of them would anyways veer towards social networks considering the hype around them. This however does open up a number of possibilities for innovations in social networking.
