Always Wanted To Design A Mobile Phone? OpenMoko Lets You
Posted on April 6th, 2008 by dhirender
In a rather surprising move, OpenMoko has published the 3D drafting files for the phone’s case online. What more, the CAD files for the Neo branded handsets let anyone who knows how to work with CAD alter the case’s design.
The Taiwanese manufacturer had published their software earlier, allowing developers to tweak it as they wished.
Involving the community at this stage is brilliant, and no doubt will lead to a far superior product. The other takeaway is that this model is just as easily replicable for any other product – think television sets for instance, or laptops.
