A death knell for email?

Given the increase in social networking such as Orkut and Facebook, are people are getting more attuned to scrapping as opposed to emailing. It is so much easier and immediate to scrap someone on Orkut for instance – it helps that the number of scraps on a profile is almost a measure of popularity.
One aspect that would probably work against scrapping would be the inability to make a scrap private (though Orkut does provide a member to delete a post on his own profile page or his own scraps on any other profile).
Will the future of email use be relegated to business use only? What does this imply for email marketers? Are we going to see a rush among the publications to provide RSS feeds on social networking websites? Would SMSes and all other variations of mobile based communication serve to further the decline.
