DealTracker - Amazon Acquires Shelfari
Starting with it’s investment of $1 million in the bibliophile social network Shelfari back in February 2007, Amazon has moved on to acquire it, though the terms have not been disclosed as yet [Shelfari blog]
With it’s model built around books and book lovers, Shelfari allows members to share their literary inclinations and passions with peers, friends, and total strangers, and was among the first ones in this space.
Amazon seems to be on an acquisition spree, having acquired AbeBooks just about a month back. As TechCrunch notes, as part of that acquisition Amazon also got a stake in Shelfari’s competitor LibraryThing, which AbeBooks had previously purchased a 40% stake in. Will it now move on to merge the two?
