Yahoo! Opens Two More Domains For Email

With 260 million users worldwide using the service, it could sometimes be difficult to get a username of your choice on Yahoo Mail. Creativity in selecting the email address, can sometimes end up with one that is convoluted and hard to remember.
To make it easier for potential members to get an email address of their choice, Yahoo! is now offering email addresses in two other domains - ymail.com and rocketmail.com.
If they find an address they like better, users with existing accounts in Yahoo Mail or other webmail service will be able to migrate their messages and contacts to accounts in the new domains.
Accounts in the two new domains will work in exactly the same way as yahoo.com addresses, and as with yahoo.com, people will be able to sign up for addresses with country-specific extensions of the two new domains.
Ymail.com is a domain Yahoo has never used, while rocketmail.com belonged to the e-mail provider Yahoo acquired in 1997 and re-launched later as Yahoo Mail. Currently, both domains redirect to http://mail.yahoo.com
E-mail is considered an important product because it fosters user loyalty and spurs frequent visits that create advertising opportunities, and this move would no doubt becoming as a response to Gmail’s phenomenal growth - Comscore estimates that about 101 million people used Gmail in April. [Via]
