Social Networking - Moving Beyond The Young
Social networking sites are seeing older members of society participate as more sites geared toward career age adults and retirees emerge according to this In-Stat survey.
Career networking sites like LinkedIn and Ryze are seeing their sites gaining popularity not only in individual memberships, but with corporations seeking to connect employees. Eons and 50Plus, both directing the content of their sites to baby boomers and retirees, are continuing to grow as more senior Internet users discover them.
The challenge for social networking site developers would now lie in attracting the attention of older members of society, and increasing membership amongst these potential users. More so, because of the estimated one-third who pay for premium services on social networking and video sites, the biggest spenders were in the 45 to 54 year old segment.
