Defacement Of Indian Websites On The Rise

According to statistics of the Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-In) which handles computer securities incidents in the country, 612 Indian websites were defaced in March compared to 214 websites in February. Of these, 313 were ‘.Com’ domain websites and 178 were ‘.In’ websites.
A form of malicious hacking, website defacement usually involves breaking into the web server of the website in question, and substituting the original home page by one created by the hacker. Often the hacker replaces the site’s normal content with a specific political or social message or erases the content from the site.
