Launched - Twitter In Japanese, With Advertisements

Expecting to make a windfall from the country’s cellphone addiction, Twitter, the service that launched the micro-blogging movement, has launched an edition in Japanese - which in a first for Twitter will also carry advertisements.
Despite the site’s popularity in the United States, an estimated one-quarter of the people who accessed Twitter in February originated from Japan - not surprising given the love affair that the Japanese have with their phones, using it to pay for train fares, shop, watch television, read novels, etc. etc.
As their blog states:

We’re really excited about Twitter Japan because it’s a big step towards our goal of becoming a worldwide communication network.

Does this represent the future of Twitter? How will people react to getting ads in their feeds? The Japanese avtaar will be closely watched for more than one reason.
