Will Microsoft Really Orphan Vista?

Jason Hiner at TechCrunch has an interesting prediction to make - that we can expect a cleaner leaner version of yet another operating system from Microsoft very soon. Given the clunky that Vista is, he might just have a point. I for one hate using Vista, preferring XP, and so it seems do a lot of other people. Creating a leaner modular OS, would also allow Microsoft to come up with fast release cycles.

My prognosis is that Microsoft will use smoke and mirrors to conjure up an early release of Windows 7, the next edition of the world’s most widely-used operating system. Then they will quietly and unofficially allow IT departments to migrate straight from Windows XP to Windows 7.

That while it would not be a truely new operating system, it would be a step towards removing much of the bloatware from Vista. I for one, would definitely wait for it.
