The Future Of Internet Access Lies In The Mobile

India, which has overtaken the US to emerge as the second largest market by sales for Nokia after China, has been adding over six million new mobile users every month.
“More than half of the new handsets sold every month in India comes from Nokia,” according to Nokia’s Senior Vice President - Entry Business Unit (Mobile Phones Business Group) Soren Peterson.
Given that the total internet services market is estimated to touch 100 billion euros by 2010, Nokia is planning to offer low-cost, web-enabling handsets in India, an indication that the future of Internet access lies more mobile than in the PC - at least when it comes to volumes.
Given that the Internet user base in India recently touched 46 million, while the mobile phone subscribers touched 217 million in October 2007, it should not come as a surprise.
Also, the number of people who know how to use a computer unaided has grown to 65 million, while I would tend to think that more than 93% of Indians would know how to operate a phone (even though my parents still have a bit of a problem using a mobile phone).
