Read Over 1.5 million Books At The Universal Digital Library
Architects of the Universal Library project, have completed scanning more than 1.5 million books - a number that increases by the thousands everyday, and beats their original target of 1 million books in this time frame.
This is a project that was started nearly a decade ago by computer scientists at the Carnegie Mellon University in an effort to digitize the published works of humankind and make them freely available online. At least half the books are out of copyright or scanned with the permission of copyright holders. Currently, only excerpts of copyright-protected works are available, though it is expected that the complete texts would soon be available as well.
It is a step toward in the creation of an online library that would make traditionally published books available to everyone - all it needs, is an Internet connection, and the thirst for knowledge.
