Marvel plans to adopt a subscriptions model - $4.99 a month for a year’s subscription, or $9.99 a month. 250 titles have been offered free for a limited time.
Given the recent moves by content producers towards an advertising driven model, it remains to be seen whether comics would be able to go down the subscription route. Collectors, who would no doubt be the largest market, would still prefer to buy the print copy. One way to generate more interest in the website, and boost both interest and traffic on the website could be to build in more community features presenting it as a hub for enthusiasts and to connect. In that case, Marvel would also be in a position to use this community as a dip-stick to bring out products which would work better in the market. All this of course would depend on the emphasis that Marvel plans to bring to their web presence.
The comics themselves are pretty high resolution, and initially take a bit of time to load. Once loaded however you can flip between the pages quite fast.
