Broadband Utopia?
Download a 5 MB music file in 5 seconds flat - utopia for sure. Airtel claims it is possible with its 8Mbps broadband connection available for home users - the first one to do so in India, at a time when all others are providing speeds ranging from 256Kbps to 4Mbps, and the government considers speeds above 256Kbps to be broadband. For Airtel this would also mean that their network would be IPTV ready once it is allowed. This would initially be available in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Delhi and the NCR, followed by Mumbai and Hyderabad. The pricing however, is awaited.
However, given my experience with all sorts of internet service providers, I would take this with a pinch of salt - speeds of 2Mbps usually mean actual speeds of anything between 256 and 512 kbps. I haven’t used Airtel as yet, so can’t comment on them. I recently got a Triband connection from MTNL , but find it down most of the time.
