Where Do You Go When Your Baby Has The Hiccups?
… you swing over to the nearest PC of course.
$1.9 billion in 2007 shooting up to$2.3 billion in 2008 - thats the US market for retail sales of baby products online. No wonder then, that a host of websites are springing up, from blogs and self-help Web sites to message boards and sites with loads on information. BabyCenter, part of the Johnson and Johnson family reckons itself to be the most popular with an estimated 78% market share has a series of region specific portals and and has recently bought over Maya’s Mom, a networking site.
India too, is seeing a burst of activity in this area with Babycenter India for instance, with the latest being iMom.in - which looks to have a community focus.
US research shows some 61 percent of moms use the Internet multiple times each day, according to eMarketer figures from DoubleClick Performics and Microsoft research, while about 98 percent of parents, men and women, are online, according to a January 2007 survey by Nickelodeon.
As more segments of the society get online, we can expect to see more such niches coming up.
