Content claims 47% of time spent online
Posted on August 13th, 2007 by dhirender
With the time spent on content increasing from 34% to 47% over the past four years, it claims the lion share of internet time displacing communication (such as email) which dropped from 46% to 33%. Time spent on search increased by 35%, but at 5% of total time spent, it still remains small.

Some factors which may have contributed to this trend:
- The rise in other forms of presenting content such as rich media including video, aided by the spread of broadband.
- The trend towards social networking has helped to boost content.
- High engagement features such as Online gaming
The popularity of Instant Messaging tools, which allow more direct forms of communication, and are hence more efficient, would have contributed to the decrease in time spent on pure communication.
