Take your online avtaar, offline

funkeys.jpgA recent article in the New York Times, talks about the U.B. Funkeys, created by Radica Games, a set of collectible vinyl figures that connect to a computer via a base with a U.S.B. port. Once the Funkeys are set up, their owner will be able to go to www.ubfunkeys.com (which is not yet operational) and enter Funkeys Town. There, each Funkey on the base will appear in avatar form on the screen, ready to play games.
While these Funkeys would no doubt be mass produced, does this open the doors for a company which creates custom avtaars for Second Life, GaiaOnline members based on their online avtaars? Is there already someone doing that?
